Properties of Multiplication Basketball Game

In this math basketball game students will identify properties of multiplication and use them in mental
math computations.
These properties include:

  • Commutative Property of Multiplication a x b = b x a
  • Changing the order of the factors does not change the product.
  • Example: 6 x 7 = 7 x 6
  • Associative Property of Multiplication a x (b x c) = (a x b) x c
  • Changing the grouping of the factors does not change the product.
  • Example: (2 x 3) x 5= 2 x (3 x 5)
  • Identity Property of Multiplication a x 1 = a
  • Any number multiplied with one is that number.
  • Example: 8 x 1 = 8 and 1 x 8 = 8

You can play this game alone, with a friend, or in two teams. This game is a multi-player game that can be played on computers, Promethean boards, smart boards, iPads, and other tablets. You do not need to install an app to play this game on the iPad. Have fun evaluating algebraic expressions!
