Here are some important facts about squares and square roots:

  • A square of a number is the result of multiplying that number by itself.
  • The square root of a number is one of the two equal factors of that number.
  • The square root of a product is the product of the square roots.
  • When estimating a square root, fing the whole number whose square is closest to the radicand (the number under the square root).
  • When adding or subtracting expressions with square roots, combine only the like terms (the terms with the same radicand).
